Graph showing daily global mean sea surface temperatures for 2026. This is also compared to the daily data from the 1981-2010 average and 1991-2020 average. Annotations are also shown to the current year with the other years from 1940 to 2026. There is a seasonal cycle. There is a long-term warming trend. 2023 and 2024 are also indicated, which were the warmest years on record. Data is from ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis and updated through 23 September 2026.

Line graph time series of annual mean sea surface temperature anomalies from 1982 to 2024. There is a long-term increasing trend and 2024 is the warmest on record. Anomalies are relative to 1982-2010.

The globe has awakened from it's hurricane slumber with 3 major hurricanes / super typhoons in 3 days! All three have been cat 4 and 5's with #Ragasa topping the list at 175 mph. #Gabrielle is peaking now so 140 may soon be upgraded.

Global sea-surface temperatures set yet another new daily record, with the preliminary temperature coming in at 21.149°C yesterday.

The hottest SST on record is 21.173°C, set on Apr. 24, 2024.

High sea surface temperatures were recorded in the Pacific Ocean on May 22, 2026, with high anomalies from 1981–2011 in three areas: 5.3°C off the coast of South America, 4.6°C off the coast of California and 5.4°C off the coast of Asia. arctic-news.blogspot.com/2026/05/ocea...

The equatorial Pacific continued to warm in May 2026 as El Niño takes hold. Elsewhere, several notable bands of anomalously warm sea surface temperatures persisted across the extratropical Pacific and Atlantic, including a long-lived marine heatwave off Mexico.
