Cyprus community of NSW joins Armenians in remembering the 1915 Sayfo Genocide and other genocides
SYDNEY — The Cyprus Community of NSW joined the Armenian community at the Parliament of New South Wales in Australia this week for a commemoration that placed remembrance, historical truth, and Australia’s humanitarian response at the center of discussions about the genocides of the early 20th century. The event, held on Tuesday, brought community representatives together to honor the victims of the Sayfo Genocide and reflect on the broader destruction inflicted on the Suroyo (Syriac–Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean), Armenian, and Pontic Greek peoples during the final years of the Ottoman Empire.

Oh yeah now I remember.

His father (Henry Morgenthau Sr.) frequently spoke out against the Armenian genocide (as well as the Sayfo and the Greek genocide) as it was happening.

Putting the Armenians next to the Kurds considering the Kurds participating in the Armenian genocide (and the Sayfo) is.... Well, it's a level of historical and ethnic insensitivity and ignorance that I think is implied in all the other racism that they're doing.

‘Empire of Violence’: Taner Akçam to publish new history of Armenian Genocide in January 2027
WORCESTER, Massachusetts, USA — Historian and sociologist Taner Akçam announced the forthcoming publication of his new book, Empire of Violence: A New History of the Armenian Genocide, which he describes as the culmination of more than 35 years of research on the Armenian Genocide. The 288-page book will be published by Princeton University Press in January 2027. It examines the period from 1878 through the 1930s through what Akçam describes as a “new understanding of continuity,” placing the Armenian Genocide within a broader history of anti-Christian violence in the late Ottoman Empire that also affected Greeks and Suroye (Syriacs–Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans).

Although arguably the most well-known single instance of Assyrian persecution in the modern Middle East, the massacre took part less than a decade after the much-larger Sayfo, or Assyrian Genocide, that resulted in Assyrian persecution across southeastern Anatolia and northwest Persia

Opinion: Why is the world silent about the Assyrian Genocide?

The Assyrian Genocide claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of Assyrian Christians. More than a century later, Sayfo remains one of the least recognized genocides of the twentieth century. Why is the rest of the world so silent?

Historian Taner Akçam’s ‘Earthquakes’ of Anatolia: The Syriac Experience in the Making of Modern Turkey
For more than a century, the history of modern Turkey has been shaped by a question that remains deeply contested: how should a nation understand the violence, displacement, and demographic transformations that accompanied the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the creation of the Republic? For the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, one of the oldest Christian communities of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia), this question is not merely an academic debate.
