Crows close their eyes* when pooping. Who knew?

(NGL I feel a bit of voyeuristic guilt for posting this but it's for the sake of science, right?)

*Close their nictitating membrane, to be precise.

Membrane protein solubilization and structure determination using de novo–designed proteins
Developing therapies and vaccines against integral membrane proteins is hindered by their extensive hydrophobic surfaces, which complicate production and structural analysis. Here, we describe a gener...

So proud to share our latest publication @CellCellPress! Yue Rui reveals that the same enzyme that makes the wall, cellulose synthase complex (CESA), also tethers the plasma membrane to the wall during water-deficit stress, providing resilience. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Happy to have played a small part in this open science project spearheaded by @michalis-averof.bsky.social on genetically labeling the plasma membrane across choanozoan diversity 🤩
Issue 8 is now complete!

On the cover: Embryos of diverse animals & choanoflagellates expressing different fluorescent reporters, from a project to identify membrane-localising tags across diverse organisms. See the Techniques and Resources Article by Karapidaki et al.

Wonder doesn’t flinch. It’s our compass pulling us toward curiosity, creativity It reminds us: #science & #discovery are good. Here’s a moment that stirred mine: a new PI(3,4)P₂ probe illuminating the cell membrane & endosomes. Marvel with me. Captured on #FluorescenceFriday for #MicroscopyMonday
