This is common sense -- if you are there to satisfy your curiosity, to learn, to be entertained (the basic reasons to visit a library besides a public bathroom, free internet & computer use). Reacting with outrage that someone else might want what you don’t is deeply Weird.

If you find something offensive in the library, the correct response is to set it down and walk away. Better yet, ask the librarian for help finding something that you do want. It's not to legislate that minors can't be in the library because they might see something objectionable.

“It means dismantling essential community infrastructure.” Like Internet access (how many things require signing up online?). Like info on health insurance (try figuring out Medicare on your own!). Like literacy & ESL classes, small business aid.

Want to be able to connect to the Internet from a library when your network is down? Or when you’re traveling - or when you lose your home?

Then make this call now. Federally-funded e-rates are what pay for that wifi last mile.

ALA is deeply concerned by reports that IMLS is sending notices to libraries claiming to cancel grants that are required by law. This harmful action will disrupt libraries' ability to serve their communities.

Trump says libraries are unnecessary. We disagree. This latest executive order fires 75 federal employees and ends funding for 125,000 libraries that serve more than 1.2 billion patrons in person and even more online. Here are 7 things you can do right now 🧵

#wewillnotbesilent #showupforlibraries
Show up for libraries - 7 things you can do right now: 1. Walk into your local library and ask a librarian how you can help. 2. Attend the next library, school board, or city council meeting to express your support for libraries. 3. Run for office or support local politicians who are standing up for your rights. 4. Apply for a library card if you don’t have one already and USE it. 5. Join your local Friends of the Library organization. 6. Take to the streets! Gather friends and family and wave signs of support outside your local library. 7. Spread the word! Tell any non-believers that this is happening. This administration is taking away things that ALL parties previously agreed were good for society: libraries, cancer research, feeding children, caring for veterans. We do not accept it.
