I truly wish waterfall-tools.com created by @patmeenan.com existed when I wrote "How to read a WebPageTest Waterfall View chart"! I could have downloaded all the example WPT JSON files and hosted them along with the examples I wrote! Oh, well. Fantastic tool, thanks for building it, Pat!

If you would like to see everything that's wrong with frontend, all in one place, you can't do better than to take webpagetest.org for a spin and trace some AI chatbots.

Some of you complain that PageSpeed Insights is a bit unrealistically show for the Lighthouse test.
The PSI servers are a bit underpowered so we're changing the throttling, which should make the Performance score go up when this rolls out in the next few weeks.

Tomorrow we lose access to the current version of WebPageTest and will be forced into the new version. I’m dreading the switch. Experiments are a HUGE step backwards and I use them all the time. The interface may be consistent with Catchpoint UI, but it is boring and confusing if all you use is WPT.

My first blog post is 20 years ago, in 2005. I just counted the number of broken external links: 584 out of 2808 (20%), that's a bit excessive. Some are not really broken, e.g. chatgpt gives a 403 to my cURL request, webpagetest gives me 429. But still, wowzers, a lot of dead bodies in 20 years.
