As Chair of the APPG on Anti-Corruption and Responsible Tax, I welcome the real ambition here: £550 million of investment over three years, 500 new officers across law enforcement and justice, a new national Financial Intelligence Service, and stronger closure powers for dodgy shops.

Yes. The decision to set up a huge APPG, Sarah Olney’s 10-minute rule bill in December 2024, the consistent op-eds, the focus on calling for a “commission”, the parliamentary debates, the pro-reform amendment to the Representation of the People Bill – all helped make Burnham’s commitment possible

No one should face consequences for reporting harassment or abuse at work. I recently hosted a roundtable on progress since #MeToo and the protections still missing. As Co-Chair of the Women and Work APPG, I'll keep pushing for stronger safeguards and accountability.

Why not take part in the commission, but with an opposing point of view? The vice-chair of the APPG on Fair Elections is a Tory, perhaps they're afraid too many Tory MPs will be in favour.

An APPG, informed by submissions from experts and the views of a Citizen’s Assembly could be an excellent format. We’ve had enough of non-experts, self-interested partisanship and stasis. Time for change but we have to start getting the big decisions right.

I wrote this piece a year ago making the case for a National Commission on Electoral Reform (as initially by @appgfairelections.bsky.social).

Delighted to see Andy Burnham announce plans for one today.
Why a “National Commission” is the way forward for electoral reform
Electoral reform is back on the UK’s political agenda as First-Past-the-Post strains under the pressures of multi-party politics. The new APPG for Fair Elections proposes a National Commission to e…

I was involved briefly with a microbiome APPG with Alan Bernard a few years back. Was super excited about it.

It eventually just sort of.. stopped? Because the other PhD students involved in writing the reports just weren’t doing it.

It’s such a pervasive problem. Would have loved to do more

Hmmm... unsure about the bit at the end about not wanting to raise this with the APPG on ME because of "the closeness of one of the national charities and BACME".
It's a small field ffs - avoiding that is going to be next to impossible isn't it?
Surely that needs to be out in the open?
