'Beechleaf' from 1955 is a lovely blend of soft brown tones. Large flared flower. Sadly it is rare, and a slow grower and shy bloomer.

No one said what happened to the crew member whose bunk I inherited. It's an upgrade, by a window, paint included.
Their dreams come to me in colours - mermaid-turquoise, beechleaf-green, octopus-purple. I paint on rice-paper, sold as memory scraps so they're remembered in this forever black.

It was distinctly Old Money who taught me how to make strawberry vodka with the tiny native wild strawberries... summer equivalent of sloe gin or blackberry whisky or beechleaf vodka... so presumably old traditions don't count...? ;)

I've always thought it's kind of one for each season- blackberry through winter, beechleaf in spring, strawberries in summer and sloes in autumn... no idea why most folk only know of the sloe gin!
There's also one where you add fruits as they ripen, layering sugar and cover with brandy, gorgeous!
