Interferon induced circRNAs escape herpesvirus host shutoff and suppress lytic infection - PubMed
To globally profile circRNAs, we employ RNA-Sequencing paired with chimeric junction analysis for alpha-, beta-, and gamma-herpesvirus infection. We find circRNAs are, as a population, resistant to ho...

How do neurons deal with fitting large regulatory proteins into small spaces to control plasticity and memory? By generating micropeptides via local translation of circRNAs, of course! Here’s to shedding new light on the ‘dark’ proteome in the brain.

Local translation of circular RNAs is required for synaptic activity and memory
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are enriched in synapses and implicated in cognitive processes, and recent studies have shown that circRNAs can encode micropeptides, which suggests that there may be novel sy...

circRNAs as tools for gene silencing, similar to microRNA-mediated gene silencing. Do we also need circRNA target prediction software? Circular RNAs trigger nonsense-mediated mRNA decay: Molecular Cell
Circular RNAs trigger nonsense-mediated mRNA decay
Boo and Shin et al. uncover that the EJC deposited onto circRNAs after back-splicing is spatially located near the 3′ UTR of mRNA through circRNA-mRNA interaction. The EJC on circRNA triggers NMD of the mRNA. Mechanistic studies reveal the roles of circNMD in apoptosis and its therapeutic potential for mRNA downregulation.
