This was extremely helpful advice I got from my therapist when I first started. It was a powerful tool that helped me claw my way out of abject despair early this summer. Highly recommend!

Find one thing you can look forward to. Make that thing for yourself if you need to. Starting a new book. Trying a new recipe. Exploring a new park. Give yourself future moments that help you keep moving forward.

My work against #self-abandonment and #peoplepleasing behavior is something I'm particularly proud of. I'm no longer trying to be who others want me to be. I'm learning & loving who I really am.

Think of PTSD as a photograph of a specific terrible moment. C-PTSD is more like a film that played on a loop, frame after frame, until it changed the way you see yourself and the world.

Believing you deserve good things when you have #CPTSD is hard. It's possible to get there, though. It starts with understanding you're not deserving of bad things.

You deserve a life where your nervous system is not always preparing for impact. You deserve rooms that do not belittle you. You deserve love that lets your body believe it is safe.

A narcissist will never... never, never, never. Never, never, NEVER... admit they were the cause or at fault. They will always blame their victim. It's as certain as death and taxes.

Contrary to what our "fawn" response believes, approval does not necessarily equal safety.

The backflips we do to gain others' approval can actually telegraph to dangerous people that we can be manipulated-- that our addiction to approval is exploitable.

#Derealization & #depersonalization are forms of #dissociation common in those with #CPTSD. I tend towards depersonalization most of the time, more as though I'm floaty or don't really exist (an attachment #trauma indicator).

#complexPTSD #complextrauma #healing #healingjourney
How do I know if I'm dissociating? By Mindful.brains Derealization - Feeling unfamiliar with your surroundings - Surroundings appear blurry, distorted, two-dimensional, or colorless - Feeling as though the world isn't real - Feeling disconnected from people as if you were separated by a glass wall - The sense that the distance, the size, & the shape of objects are distorted Depersonalization - Perceiving your body as a foreign object or not belonging to you - Feeling like you're outside your body - Feeling disconnected from your own mind, body, or self - The sense that your body, legs, or arms appear distorted, enlarged, or shrunken - Feeling detached from your emotions as if you were a robot

It doesn't work & is a waste of time. I have nothing to prove to anyone else and my ability to maintain relationships with people that hurt me proves only that I was set up to endure abuse by other abusers.

Being yourself & loving yourself- not just in the abstract, touchy feely "feeling" sense, but in the concrete, behavioral sense- is hardcore rebellion against the bullies & abusers who tried to shame & pressure you out of your own identity. That's real, not metaphorical. You rebel. - Dr. Glenn Patrick Doyle @DrDoyleSays

Oof. This is another toughie. This one's about stepping into your own power. You have a right to exist. Right now. Own it. You don't have to earn it. We have to show up for ourselves. We can permit ourselves to be.

#CPTSD #complexPTSD #complextrauma #healing #recovery #healingjourney #babysteps
Over-explaining is a subtle sign that you still seek permission to exist as you are.

It happens slowly. One day you can't imagine having made excuses for how that person treated you. You can't imagine not ending an abusive relationship when a year ago the thought of any relationship ending was terrifying. You respect yourself.

#CPTSD #complexPTSD #complextrauma #healingjourney
I hope the light in your eyes is restored and you have reasons to love life and want to actively be a part of it again. I hope one day you wake up and life doesn't feel heavy, strange, or difficult to participate in, and you are able to breathe again.

The tribalism that comes from being a group of bullies punching down at a victim can feel like comradery, but it's power & control.

If you want to know who the bully is and who the victim is, pay attention to who stands alone. The victim is often left isolated, while the bully has a whole crowd behind them, laughing along and encouraging the behavior.
