🚨New preprint out❗️

Using human genetic data we explored IL-6 signaling as a potential target for cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD)🧬🧠

We found no convincing associations between genetically downregulated IL-6 signaling and

Circulating immune cells in cerebral small vessel disease: a systematic review - Biogerontology
Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) refers to all pathologies of the brain’s arterioles, capillaries, and venules. cSVD is highly prevalent with ageing and is diagnosed by its characteristic neuro-im...

Geschichtsstunde, Reichtagswahlen 1932

Juli: NSDAP erreicht 37,3%. Hitler wurde nicht Reichskanzler.

November: NSDAP erreicht 33,1%. Hitler wurde Reichskanzler.

Warum? Weil Konservative das so entschieden.

Merke: Nicht +/- ein paar % verschafft Nazis Macht. Konservative tun es (oder nicht).

Although barely discussed outside neurology, cerebral small vessel disease is a major aging-related driver of stroke, dementia, and disability🧠

It is a major public health concern without an available treatment📈

Huge unmet clinical need❗️

🚨 New preprint

11,000+ human brain microvessels in cSVD.

Key findings:
• Early, bimodal pericyte loss
• Endothelial activation comes later
• Venous-like microvascular shift
• Capillary density ↑

💡 Suggests a sequential vascular pathology, not parallel.

Congrats to Joanna Wardlaw on new MRC funding for Cerebral Small Vessel Disease research. cSVD = major cause of stroke & around 40% of dementia cases; a common but neglected disorder with no effective treatment. This study will focus on 2 drugs to see if they slow/reverse cSVD. edin.ac/4j7JXNE
MRC invests in experimental medicine dementia studies
£16.5 million to help researchers, patients and industry partners work together to better understand how dementia begins and progresses.

Cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) can cause stroke and dementia, but has no cure. With @ukdri.ac.uk, we're supporting a clinical study at @imperialcollegeldn.bsky.social to test whether XBD173, a shelved anxiety drug, can reduce brain damage in people with cSVD.
