Day 1 of #tourdefleece - surprisingly good innings for the spinning! This has been a lovely easy spin so far... #dropspindlespinning #spinsky
A drop spindle spun with a good amount of off-white Suffolk yarn, with plenty of room for more!

This Corriedale yarn was the first usable yarn I spun on drop spindles. It’s definitely spun too tightly in places but I am still so proud of it. It sparkles.

Close up of a blue stripe on a black shawl. The blue has sparkly bits in it and is clearly handspun.

Morning #tourdefleece people! How goes it? Hoping to get a fair bit done today, trying to maintain my pace and just get through the prepped Suffolk asap. #dropspindlespinning #yarnsky #dropspinning
A slightly-wound dropspindle in my hand, resting on a lovely soft colourful stripey IKEA blanket. A stack of poorly-rolled creamy Suffolk fleece rolags are falling into view from the right-hand side of the photo.

Suffolk fleece picked and prepped for the start of #tourdefleece tomorrow! It's lovely and bouncy, even if it is a bit squashed from being wrapped up away from moths - feels like it will spin up pretty quickly with plenty of grip. #dropspindlespinning #spinsky
A picked cloud of off-white Suffolk fleece above some fairly scrappily-carded rolags of the same.

It's a while since I posted any spinning, so here we are! This is a ply-up of lots of ends I had on various spindles and I'm really quite pleased with it. #yarnsky #dropspindlespinning #spinsky
A spindle wound thick, if not entirely full, of a 2-ply Wensleydale/alpaca mix. The same mix wound nicely onto my niddy-noddy - an even spin, slender gauge.

The Wensleydale yarn I dropspun earlier this year has now been piled and wound! It's super soft and I'm really pleased with it, although now I'm not entirely sure what to do with it...

A wooden niddy-noddy wound with a good weight of dropspun two-ply creamish white Wensleydale yarn. A closer look at the Wensleydale yarn on the niddy-noddy - despite the pace with which I spun it, it's come out reasonably even with a fairly consistent twist. A couple of little bobbles but overall I'm very pleased with it!

So here's the Jacob's I'd prepped so far spun up (3 eps of Alien Earth) - tried to let it be a thicker gauge than I usually spin, but kept forgetting. It's not the most even but it has a lovely halo. Going to prep some more now...

A drop spindle wound with about 50g of Jacob's fleece single in a mottled cream and brown. It's uneven and a little wonky but has some good heft to it.

I had to ply up a bit of alpaca today. This will free up the spindle I will need to ply the qiviut on. This is a birdseye maple spindle that weighs .9 of an ounce. She's pretty, isn't she? I'm sorry, I can't remember the maker. #highwhorlspindle #dropspindlespinning #birdseyemaple #fiberarts
A womans left hand is holding a high whorl drop spindle. On the spindle is some plied yarn, and there is a single spun yarn loosely wrapped around the wrist. This is called andean plying, where you use each end of the single to ply it on itself. There are tattoos on the wrist of a dog pawprint and dog tags with the letter J on it and a heart with a banner with the word woof across it. The top of the spindle showing the pattern of the birdseye maple wood.

Today I discovered the Mini Minder by Lemonwood makes a perfect wrist distaff for spindle spinning. I just put the decorated side down. Bonus that it fits into my carry case too. #yarnspinning #handspinning #dropspindle #dropspindlespinning #handspun
A Snyder high whorl gear drop spindle sits on a table with a mini minder to its left. The bottom of the minder is facing the camera. It is decorated with a honeycomb and a honeybee. There is white alpaca roving around the minder. There is a person's arm on the left and the mini minder wrapped with roving hangs from it. To the right is the drop spindle hanging from the hand. The backdrop is shelves of various yarns. The drop spindle sits on the table to the left. The mini minder is being held partially in the top of a case to show it fits into my spindle carry case. The case is in the forefront of the photo. The case is a round wood and vinyl wine bottle holder.

I bought another wine case to transport my spindles safely. I was going to paint it blue, but the color is nicer in person than expected. I am going to add a tiny Tardis on it somewhere though. The swirls just make me think of galaxies. #reuse #yarnspinner #dropspindlespinning #highwhorlspindle
Sitting on a coffee table are two wine bottle carriers. The one on the left is vertical and is brown. The top is wood and the bottom is vinal, with roses imprinted in it. The one on the right is horizontal. It is orange and has swirls imprinted in it. In the background is a dog bed that is blue with constellations on it. There is a box of dog toys on the left of that. To the right is an upright Jensen Tina 2 castle style spinning wheel. This shows the horizontal wine bottle carrier open to show the inside. It is covered in brown cloth. It has a small pocket on the right side and a holding strap in the middle that has a strap on it. This shows the horizontal carrier open with 3 high whorl drop spindles it it. One is showing an alpaca inlaid in the top of the whorl. There is also a mini minder with white alpaca on it. The design on the minder is a honeycomb and honeybee. The minder is used as a wrist distaff. This shows just the horizontal carrier closed. It has a clasp in the middle. There are 2 strap handles, one on each side so that even if the clasp opens, the case will still remain closed when being carried.
