So super super important question/ call to action for your all-

Have you supported @dublin2029.bsky.social yet?

Presupports are how bids become cons.

Assuming it will just happen doesn't make it happen.

If you haven't then I will make a deal with you...

did you know: Máiréad Ní Ghráda's 1940 Irish-language science fiction novel Manannán, which features a giant humanoid mech piloted by humans riding inside it, is one of the first non-Japanese examples of a prototypical mecha (only 9 years after the debut of the earliest, Ōgon Bat 黄金バット, in 1931)?

How to turn this into a ribbon? “Really janky fun”? “I 🩵💙 really janky things”?

For anyone unaware, I am one of the co-chairs bidding to bring Worldcon back to Dublin - @dublin2029.bsky.social - so I can vouch we’re putting a lot of time and effort into this janky, volunteer-run piece of my heart.
As far as I know no other organization does it the way Worldcon does because a) Worldcon is fundamentally a fan organization, not a guild or governing body, b) it's a really janky way to run things and no one today would set out to do it this way. This is what organic fandom development looks like.
It's still wild to me (and honestly a bit confusing) that something as big for the genre as the Hugos is basically a series of mostly unrelated entities giving the award each year. Are you aware of any other industry awards that function like that? Seems rather unique.
