II often come across fungi I've never seen here before just now - plus some old friends. This one - Hygrocybe conica, I think - is on a grass path. Sometimes known as 'Witch's hat' it grows in undisturbed grassland across Northern Europe, North America and interestingly Australia. ! 🌱

The image shows two large, mature mushrooms with deep brown, smooth caps that have developed distinct, mosaic-like white cracking patterns across their surfaces. They are growing close together out of a dense bed of green moss, accompanied by a few smaller, round button mushrooms beneath them. The prominent cracking on the caps is a classic physical response to environmental conditions—often occurring when a dry spell follows a period of fast, wet growth, causing the top skin (cuticle) to stretch and split.

The rain finally stopped, so we were able to get in 9 holes of #gowf today. After several weeks of on and off rain, our mushroom friends were out in force.
