The first computer bug!

🖥️ #OTD in #Tech #History 9 September 1947, the Mark II at Harvard University kept making consistent errors. The team, which included Dr #GraceHopper, were baffled until they opened up the computer to find a moth in the system! Truly a bugged computer!

Her predictions focused on how people would use computing.Product builders still benefit from assessing its real value before celebrating the capability itself.

US Admiral & mathematics PhD #GraceHopper was the first #ComputerScientist to devise a machine-independent/high-level #ProgrammingLanguage (FLOW-MATIC, then COBOL). She met with a team on #ThisDayInHistory in 1959 to discuss creation of #COBOL, a #mainframe language still in use.

This isn't just tech history—it's critical infrastructure. The programmers are retiring, and few are learning COBOL. What happens when the last generation of experts walks away? How do we secure our financial future?

Today, we are all talking about AI and the magical things it can do.

But Grace Hopper made history and even with all the progress we made, we are still limited by the length of that piece of cable Grace shares in the video.
