not sure where the line between vigilance and hypervigilance is these days

It's impossible to maintain a constant hypervigilance across the entire spectrum of threats.

Hypervigilance will exhaust you and make you sick.

Solidarity and real community helps.

Be intentional with how you communicate with friends about breaking news. Don't be afraid to make requests.

Sometimes hypervigilance becomes a closed feedback loop 😓😓

my therapist (responding to something i just said): Ah, that would be your hypervigilance. That's something we can work on.

(my therapist pauses for a moment)

mt: Actually it might be worth keeping that hypervigilance going considering...everything

AI hypervigilance is a great description of the fatigue I feel looking at Online at the moment.
In 1999, we surfed the Web. Now we comb through it like a fantasy hero. Which posts are treasure, and which are deadly Mimics? What's real, and what's an impersonator trying to steal my attention?

Worse: reading all this bland AI monoculture text leads to us thinking bland AI monoculture thoughts.
AI hypervigilance is now an omnipresent cognitive load for your users
AI may make your job easier, but that effort has just been shifted onto your users. They are noticing it and they hate it.

Working on a newsletter issue about the costs of hypervigilance in every software-mediated interaction nowadays, but this pretty much sums it up
It really sucks, doesn't it? Instead of getting excited as I used to when I get a new message, I'm just like ugh, another changeling wearing an uncanny approximation of a human face trying to trick its way into my cottage

I can’t tell if I’m experiencing hypervigilance from the trauma of it all or if I’m just appropriately stressed given the circumstances

"for many communities, hypervigilance is survival. this is why you must never trigger the vigilance required for their survival."
Ugh. The main anti-ICE group in Washington which has 44k followers on Facebook and has been going around to communities promoting classes is now promoting this anti-whistle nonsense for "harm reduction" reasons as well.

I'm tired of the hypervigilance that comes with knowing that public health is being dismantled and preventable outcomes are becoming more prevalent.

it's so funny he just admits "i've never actually been in any kind of danger". dude doesn't really act this way, at best he play acts at hypervigilance. zero understanding of what kind of awareness keeps you safe in dangerous places.
“oh, you think conservative men are terrified of big cities? common mistake. we are actually all just self-taught jason bournes.”

And the hypervigilance. Feeling like if you look at anything else is a moral failing.

In trauma recovery we train ourselves to let go of hypervigilance-- not because it's "stupid," but because it's an inefficient tool if our actual goal is safety. Hypervigilance exhausts us without really moving the needle on safety.

It's a security blanket w/ holes in it.
