YES @billmckibben.bsky.social !! #bikes and #ebikes are joy-inducing #climateinfluence miracles.

And, we need more unexpected messengers to shout it from the rooftops.

It is so easy to go #lesscar when you experience urban transportation freedom. Fossil fuel irrelevance FTW

The #ebike word spreds! Just had a joyful convo with a TJ's clerk about how car woes made her decide to just shift to an ebike and she went ON about the benefits for her monthly budget, her health, her enjoyment of #Seattle beauty, etc. etc.

Our secret plot is working, friends. #lesscar

I was just recording a #NameAndFame convo (will drop in June) with @dabaden.bsky.social of @greenstories.bsky.social about this exact thing (!)

I'm a big fan of how #lesscar #ebike #transportation in #cities may come up or how #plantbased food can get it's due in TV/ film.

Perhaps @bikabout.com has a recommendation for how the tourism industry around Multnomah Falls can avoid this?

In so many cases like this, people’s first inclination is to drive as the only option. How do we normalize #lesscar thinking and good transportation infrastructure for
such spots?
May 8, 2026 at 8:35 PM
Yes! And - join the social experiment of being public about it if you walk, bike or take transit for local transportation. And share your JOY in being #lesscar. We can reflect a new, lovely social norm in our #cities . Leaders with any sort of platform: I’m really looking at you! #NameAndFame

After a protected bike lane is installed, fewer people are killed and injured while biking, walking, and driving. In New York City, we've seen that traffic deaths and serious injuries decline by:

18% for everyone
29% for pedestrians
39% for senior pedestrians

How can we make a #carfree or #lesscar lifestyle more *conceivable* to so many (in the U.S.) who have lived in/soaked in car culture for decades? Make sure that those of us who DO live that way are giving off cues (not gloating!) that we have extra joy and resilience right about now.

For those now considering more of a bike or ebike-centered transportation mode due to gas prices, this is a great video. Similar to my experiences in Seattle. #ClimateInfluence #JoyAsAnActOfResistance #lesscar

What is Emmanuel Grégoire, the new Paris mayor, planning for the city over his new term in office?

—60,000 new social housing units
—15 express bus routes
—Completion of city's full bike network
—Transformation of ring highway into a boulevard
—1000 new pedestrian streets
—300 new hectares of parks

Mayor Hidalgo has become a legendary example of political will, and she knew the first phase of this effort might be hard, but then the #lesscar city solution would sell itself. I'm over here amplifying the brave U.S. mayors + local leaders trying to step this up too. #NameAndFame #climateinfluence

Behavior and lifestyle changes are triggered by this $4 mark. I am so curious to see how bike / ebike uptake shifts too. Especially in urban areas entering warmer months. I remember it felt like an overnight shift to ebikes and bluer sky in Seattle that first COVID summer. The #lesscar joy wins.

Times infinity, David!! #LessCar and #JoyAsAnActofResistance to car culture
"Americans prefer a car-dependent lifestyle."

I can't tell you how much I hate this glib sentiment. The only way to determine someone's true, enduring preference is to give them full familiarity with their options. Americans have no familiarity with their options! They've only seen sprawl!

Highly recommend this @lloydalter.bsky.social
piece on Baby Boomers aging out of driving, but continuing to drive - because that’s the car culture we’ve created. Lots of reasons to ramp up #lesscar and more transit transportation policies!
The demographic reality is unrelenting. What happens when you have 70 million baby boomers pushing 80 and still driving big SUVs on North American roads? A whole lot of accidents waiting to happen. lloydalter.substack.com/p/we-may-soo...
We may soon have 70 million boomers too old to drive, too car-dependent to stop.
As the baby boomer bubble pushes into its eighties, we are driving into a demographic wall.

Germany’s cargo bike boom is no accident 🇩🇪

Sales jumped from 34k in 2016 to 210k in 2024, even as the wider bike market cooled. Backed by smart subsidies and big fleet rollouts, cargo bikes are replacing vans and cars at scale.

Pedestrianized streets for the big win. LOVE this news out of my own city, #Seattle and wish this for all other U.S. cities trying to get #lesscar infrastructure rolling in their communities. It works! LOTS of people like walk/bike/no car zones!!!! And that helps local businesses!
