University leaders trying to engage the right wing assault on higher education is such a bad idea because the criticism is bad faith, good faith will never be reciprocated, and they have the demolition of the university as a core movement goal. You can’t make peace with it, you can only defeat it.
Wild and revealing interview with Steve Bannon about Trump's attack on universities.

""Universities, Bannon said, are the only reason that Democrats are “able to compete with us.”"

Your therapist will see you now. You can pay with veggies and head scratches.
The therapy field is expanding to welcome new species, such as guinea pigs like Hermie. Dogs still dominate, but lamas, pigs and parrots all show healing powers.

Has AI changed how you are talking about 'predatory' journals? How about how you discuss journal quality?

It probably should.

Your monthly reminder that if you're using ChatGPT to do your science, you're failing your colleagues, community, and all of us.

Here, ChatGPT makes up data and presents it as the real thing — then apologizes when confronted.

The NLM Tech Bull is a good resource. New Mesh terms are usually dropped in early December, although the Mesh browser (the screenshots above) will have them sooner. The issue with seeing them there is that you have to rely on new IDs to see new, and it's not clear what previous terms changed.

the phrase is used a lot, but I very much dislike it: "As open as possible, as closed as necessary"

What are valid needs to make something closed? Who decides? Why is no one open and transparent about those needs? When do you communicate these things and why is pre-registration not used here? […]

Especially want to recommend this for cataloging & metadata folks—the story highlights Indigenous classifications, vocabularies, and Traditional Knowledge labels. 📚 #critcat

I didn't learn/realize this until today, but OpenEvidence now permits access to medical librarians.

(Requires ID badge or employment verification)

Kudos to whomever pressured/informed them why it was was a bad idea to exclude us.

Includes ILL, foreign offices of US companies, and members of project/review teams.
Doesn't include chance encounters at conferences (but CHLA itself, yes if attending).

All are checked against a batch of watch lists; mainly but not exclusively US federal.
