What didn't happen was pressure from Simeon to drop Ngaitahu representation on ECan being adopted by the ECan board.

My mini-review of this really wonderful book: It's a must-read if your ancestors, like mine, descend from a pivotal union between a Ngāi Tahu Māori woman, and one of the male colonial settlers who arrived as whalers in the mid-1800s. #nz #familyhistory #genealogy #ngaitahu buff.ly/Kd2DixJ

Macabre!! #PeterJackson, #NgāiTahu, #CanterburyMuseum, & US biotech co #ColossalBiosciences plan to extract DNA from Moa remains to recreate the towering flightless bird. Extracted DNA has to go somewhere. What bird will be a test subject? Whose eggs will injected DNA go into?
Creepy AF.

Kia ora, here in #Aotearoa #NZ we are celebrating 50 years of #Māori Language Week. Pictured is my 3x great-grandmother Emma Simôn and her husband John. Born in 1853 to her #NgāiTahu mother Tukuwaha, and whaler father William Thomas, she spoke Te Reo Māori and English fluently and was a translator.

In Aotearoa it is Māori language week. Sharing this whakataukī that informs my work as a family historian. I try to honour my tūpuna. These wāhine navigated the challenges of colonisation in te reo Māori (their mothers' language) and in English (their fathers). #familyhistory #whakapapa #ngaitahu

If it's "essential reading for the descendants of Tahu Pōtiki" then it's going on my reading list! Shall I get in the long library hold request queue, go in and read it at the special collections room, or buy my own copy 🤔 #whakapapa #ngaitahu #familyhistory #ancestors

Santana Minerals’ chair is under fire after local reporting linked him to climate-denial LinkedIn posts — and a separate Ngāi Tahu dispute has made the trust problem worse. #PeterCook #SantanaMinerals #NgaiTahu
Peter Cook’s Climate Denial Posts Deepen Trust Row: Santana Chairman Comments
Santana chairman comments have widened a trust dispute around the company’s proposed Central Otago mine after local reporting in January attributed climate-sceptic and culture-war posts on LinkedIn to board chair Peter Cook. Santana Minerals lists Cook as its non-executive chairman on its governance page, a role he has held since October 2023, while Otago Daily Times and Crux reported public posts in which he dismissed mainstream climate science and mocked opponents.
