This makes me, a translator, furious.
Machine translation is still poor. Even dedicated systems that are well trained on a subject regularly get things wrong when context isn't apparent. Heavily formulaic texts like technical documentation still requires postediting.

A kickstarter I backed updating Backers with "hey, sorry for the delays but translating is taking longer than expected because we had to run it through two LLMs" is shite. Hire a fucking translator.

This makes me, a translator, furious.

I've been thinking some more about this: I've been working in translation for than ten years and mostly men keep telling me that my job will be made obsolete by AI. And whenever I see a translation from AI it's so bad that it needs postediting to actually be any good.

Oh yes, postediting, that task that is sold (and paid) as a (light) revision service but is overall as demanding as a translation task. It does not sound like a good deal to me.

I hope that if ai translation is pushed to seven seas, that you'll be transparent about it. Don't invent a fake translator to dupe us into thinking it's human made and don't name a translator as such if their role was postediting only. If we can trust in your transparency, then i'm less mad about it

every day of my life i accidentally post a version of a gpose that wasn't supposed to see the light of day bc it needed EXTREME postediting for clipping

The thing is, I can't see how that would work, unless it's MTPE with the translator doing the postediting.

iPhone cameras are my go to for most photography needs. It's all about lighting, framing, & postediting. There are many settings you can adjust directly on the iPhone, such as brightness. There’s also an exposure button. The example photos were taken on an iPhone using long exposure.

One of my clients pays me almost 100% of a regular translation rate for postediting MT, so I'm not complaining.
