Why is my brain wired so that I can see a typo in someone else’s post immediately but I can’t see one in my own post even after 3 proofreadings? It is only after I hit that “post” button that my shame mocks me.

I recently said goodbye to my main client for years (a German LSP). First they imposed a rates reduction. Then they switched to this automated, fastest click gets the job system.
The quality got so bad I stopped accepting proofreadings from them. And then, they tried to reduce our rates again...

Even before AI kikked my job, us translators were uberized by the LSPs. I used to work (almost exclusively) for LionBridge. Until a few years ago, you'd get an email from a project manager asking you if you could take a job with a certain wordcount and deadline. You could negotiate the deadline. ⬇️

Just found to my shame I have been routinely misspelling the word "languorous" for YEARS. See also: "chirupped", the misspelling of which slipped past at least three professional edits and proofreadings of my novel Suckers (1993) before I finally caught and corrected it.

I worked 12/hr per day for 3 consecutive days on them while not feeling great.

Isn't that always the way? Any number of beta readers can pass their eyes over a word, up to and including the author, and still not catch it after any number of proofreadings. Fie and blast.
Oh well, there can be another edition someday.
