I have found that one thing LLMs are good at is making RShiny apps from existing R code. Could be useful for teaching—haven’t yet really thought about that application

You can download the dataset (datadryad.org/dataset/doi:...), search it on our Rshiny app (lefflerlab.chpc.utah.edu/erc_plasmodi...), and *hopefully soon* find it on plasmoDB. Please also feel free to reach out with any questions including on interpretation!

Ooooh! I must have missed that, I definitely looked at Streamlit and Rshiny options but all of them seemed to be paid for private apps.

I should definitely be able to fit into that 2.7 GB (that's what my settings show) lol. Thank you!

Come join me at posit::conf(2026)! We're almost there (Sept 14-16).

I'm speaking in the 'from laptop to cluster' session on scaling further and scaling safely for Shiny and other R production workloads.

There's a page for everything that's happening: conf.posit.co/2026/sessions/

(2) why not Rshiny? I think Rshiny is great. I've user Streamlit a lot in the past (similar but for python). You can create prototypes in no time (without front end skills) and lots of libraries availble for styling/charts etc.

However a protoype is not necessarily branded, performant or accessible

My main reason for adopting Svelte + D3 is around flexibility, easy to manage consistent components, performance and cost of hosting (static html cost much less and renders a lot faster). If we ever need heavy calculations, then we would use RShiny. but most things work as static html for us
August 7, 2026 at 7:07 AM
Rshiny is used by our analysts, but not in the digital team who oversee the publishing of outputs. So we had to rely on agencies to get us over the finish line and help with things like CSS, layout, etc. and even then, our dashboards dont work on mobile and look off brand.
August 7, 2026 at 7:07 AM
Dashboards are some of our most popular content. But we aren’t really setup to support them.

We often outsource development or build slightly clunky tools in Rshiny.

Just rebuilt a new #RShiny #app this morning to explore #OldFaithful's eruptions ⛲📊

#Analytics gets a lot more interesting when you find something unexpected.

My previous version was the one from the official template and only included a few histograms.

Today I wrote an #rshiny application that fills one of the more frequently used (annoying) pdf forms in our university. For this I had to create a #LaTeX template. With no skills in template creation I used #ChatGPT to guide me through the process using overleaf for WYSIWYG support. Took me 2 hours.

Yeah, they stopped being a public good and now just pursue profit like every other company.

I used to use a free academic lisence for Rshiny server until they discontinued support for it

Eventually, it'll get so shitty some other software will replace it as an R overlay
