It is very fun to listen to Steve Bannon's crew say that they have lost the Hispanic vote because of the economy, and then say that the Northern states will be fine because there aren't as many Hispanic voters there. Is the economy better up there? Scholars remain divided

I know everyone is celebrating, but please remember:

This is a rough time for the immigrant sons of America who aren’t Rhodes scholars, college valedictorians, doctors, and possessed of the gift of prophecy.
“I’ll smoke him by 7. Bet on it.” is going to go down as an all-time political line.

there is a type of guy who isn't an academic but seems to really hate women scholars and academics on here (and in life generally) — and it really seems everybody but white guys can clock him

I am so happy for my colleagues in Texas, who will hopefully soon be able to work in a serious academic atmosphere again. Texas has many great institutions and scholars that deserve a state administration that supports rather than suppresses them!

You know what’s cool, though? Humanities scholars don’t need research estates.

So, you don’t need to fire us to cut costs!

Universities trying to “hey, big head”
their way into recruiting back the race scholars they fired or pushed out.
lmao at all the tech billionaires who saw 2024 and went "mandate???" and tied themselves and their entire fucking industries inextricably to a sinking ship

Tonight spare a thought and rejoice for science and scholars who study things that challenge the status quo in all the red states - from climate change to critical race theory. I am thinking about my colleagues in Texas specifically rn

you're entirely right about the structural problem you outline above - for many senior scholars the natural mode is to opine about the methods, the ideologies, the ideal politics of the field, while completely ignoring whether or not younger scholars can have jobs. Still.

"A U.S. President cannot pardon himself. This is based on the legal principle that no one can be a judge in their own case, which has been upheld by the Department of Justice and constitutional scholars." But now he owns the DoJ, and scholars can go pound sand. I guarantee he'll try this final scam.
