#stripmines
Also just to make it clear (because I just have this feeling I’ll need to), I have no problem with games that could be legit described as such. It’s the ridiculous overuse of it as a cheap label that I’m sick of.

The speed with which this business stripmines words and concepts is incredible.

Chipping in from Germany. Lignite stripmines are literally the worst you can do to the planet short of just burning it.

Rome is burning and I am fiddling in the ashes. At some point the denizens realise and they shout at their god "why Elno, why?" He laughs and proclaims "for the lulz" as he stripmines the federal govt.

Is that before or after they become stripmines

until they have to change the batteries, then the pain returns. The batteries get dumped in a landfill in india and stripmines dig up cadmium in overdrive.

One stripmines the Government, the other stripmines the People.

Like- there is absolutely something to be said for the type of player who stripmines entire mountains and creates massive elaborate resource farms.

But not everybody plays like that or would have fun playing like that.

Coal stripmines, pollution spouting smokestacks, oil pipeline spills, so on, so forth.

Windmills have an "issue", it's a windy day.

Solar power has an issue, it's a sunny day.

We ever figure out hydrogen energy, it's a muddy field for the pipeline.

Windmills every day of the week!

Yeah, as a longtime union person who worked in automation, agree 💯. And automation doesn't just rip out the workforce, it stripmines our food chain with insane efficiency.

Wired: New CEO comes in and stripmines revered American institution for the lols.
David Zaslav has failed at literally everything he was hired to do and he should have every cent he's earned garnished and used to compensate all the people he fucked over in his pursuit of this unmitigated disaster of a result.

See, now I’m starting to understand why our parents hid their favorite snacks from us when we were kids. This child stripmines the raisins and the damn M&Ms from MY trail mix. Eats all the sandwich meats and the salami and the pepperoni and the fruits. All the juice? Gone.

the only downside is they might do heinous things not to avoid layoffs like other companies might, but to 'save claude' if it came to it, in the same way previous companies turned into stripmines once they needed to find enough money² to survive

Im in my 70s:

We built segregated projects, atop lethal remote stripmines
We tore out great mass transit & schools; covered bulldozed Black business districts in freeways, for reactionary white-flight suburbanites (who've unleashed run-away AGW & sent our jobs, overseas). Is NPD/BPD that pervasive?

Housing construction is way out of my purview, as the town i live in is at 1/7 of it's former peak population.

But as to data centers, stripmines, natural gas plants, etc.
Any time the process starts before negotiations end, the populace is just losing leverage everyday the builder can drag it out.

really funny that the Herobrine creepypasta is just "saw a guy playing Minecraft. He has resource insufficient stripmines bc he uses Redstone torches. tried to dox him but got told off for it. met with a cabal of people who did the same. His full name is Herobrine Persson and he lives in Minecraft"

🗺️ Fourteen cargo ships transited the Strait of Hormuz on July 13, down from the hundreds that normally thread the waterway. This constriction of physical trade corridors does not merely shock energy prices; it systematically stripmines the geopolitical stability of late liberalism.
The Narrowing Corridor: War, Heat, Machines & Democratic Erosion
Fourteen ships transited Hormuz, Paris paraded in 35C heat, OpenAI raided Cupertino for talent, and a neocon senator died. The institutions of late-liberal order are fraying.

It’s unfortunate because like… obviously this system that stripmines creatives for ideas they can spin into multibillion dollar franchises is exploitative, but there’s not really any system in place that allows people to reap rewards if their concepts are used without creating an ownership quagmire

Killer Book Club ★★
A cool mask design, decent cinematography, and couple of solid kills mean this Spanish slasher isn't a total loss, but it's a real trudge once you see how slavish a Scream ripoff it's going to be. It stripmines Wes Craven's classic for plot ideas, but also for setups to imitate

One way to summarize tRump is that he's intent on selling off our national parks as stripmines & landfills to see what he can pocket. You know, the park system basically launched by Teddy Roosevelt, the guy we put on Mt Rushmore. Vs the guy who'd happily dynamite it for not adding his loser self.
