As someone with adhd? Hourly time blocking is useless. My day fluxes from day to day. But weekly or monthly timeblocking? Oh that is my jam.

Noen folk trenger fransiskaner-ordenen.

Eventuelt noen LITT sunnere mestringsstrategier. Dette er sånn hardcore timeblocking jeg fikk råd om å drive som bipolar-mestring om ting blir krise.

So, as an ADHD-haver (enjoyer?), I find timeboxing a pretty critical part of my day. I recommend it but with HUGE fucking caveats.

I tried timeblocking in a more neurotypical way and then stayed away from it for a long time. Maybe these thoughts are useful to you!

It hadn't occurred to me until this moment, but timeblocking is like agile for me. It works reliably for things that I already know how to do and have already made the necessary decisions about, but not for anything else.
project that captures my attention in the moment! Present Elizabeth will rebel against Past Elizabeth’s tyranny!

What widespread, popular, seemingly effective productivity advice/system/habit simply does not work for you?

Retail has made me so like, desperate to protect my time, and the time I've promised to others in ways I actually ENJOY (friend-freelance) that I'm considering timeblocking again, but I gotta do it differently than the last time I tried it.

Ok ADHD/ASD/Depression answers only.

How do you… timeblock and then stick to the tasks you've decided for those blocks.

RN I follow broad/general "work shifts" and breaks in case *what* I want to work on changes.

Is it better to be more specific in timeblocking? And if so… how to commit.

Sometimes I feel like I have to many hobbies/interests - both tech-wise and creatively (sometimes both intersect). Some *serious* timeblocking seems to be the only solution to maintaining them all.

Real change starts when you stop relying on motivation and start building a system that works for you.
These results came from structure, consistency, and learning how to use your time with intention.

So, there are 3 things with timeblocking that work for my ADHD. the first two are going to be YMMV, but the last I feel is pretty goddamn mandatory for most ADHD brains and I never hear anyone talk about it...

A5. For high-level schedule frameworks, I like timeblocking. Because I can see where I stay on track/ run off track. For tangible management: Phone goes in another room! I make sure to work in my office, so I have my music/chair/desk/monitor setup, and can mentally shift into work mode. #StetChat

I block my calendar into dedicated task slots every week, one of the most efficient habits I've found.
Cal Newport: "A 40hr time-blocked week produces the same output as a 60+hr week without structure."
Protect your best hours for hard tasks. Stay flexible.

no time management system or prioritization system lasts long with me if it doesn't give me that space. It eventually becomes a cage that I subconciously free myself from.

But I've been using timeblocking as a methodology for a while and it's because I baked in time to "not-time", and it's great!
