I'm currently away from home for a while. Not very news-worthy on its own, but the place I'm staying at has a name that--translated to English--roughly comes out as "Winter's Box".

I've heard of Pandora's Box before, but this is a new one.
#WingsOfFire #wof #wofWinter #wofQibli #wofKinkajou #dragon
Comic panel showing Qibli the Sandwing and Winter the Icewing. Winter is holding a small box that says "Property of Prince Winter" on it, while Qibli is pleading to see what's inside. He promises to be good and sweep their cave for a month, before finally wailing "Winterrrr!!!". Winter looks disgruntled but is secretly enjoying this. Sketch showing Kinkajou thanking Winter for letting her look into his box the other day, and how it was the coolest thing ever. Winter says "No problem", while Qibli is loudly freaking out behind them.

Now up with the one I was most looking forward doing: Prince Winter from the IceWings! And definitely my favourite character in all of WoF. Winter Turning is a peak book simply because its from his PoV, fight me

Smaugust 2026 - "Quest"

Winter and Turtle hanging out, a rare sight indeed. Also featuring the Zelda, a game some might have heard of.

It turns out he is not very good at it.

#WingsOfFire #wof #wofTurtle #wofWinter #dragon #Zelda #OcarinaOfTime
A comic featuring Winter the Icewing and Turtle the Seawing playing The Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time. Both of them are seated with their backs to the camera, while a TV with a dragon-version of Link standing in Hyrule Field sits in the center of the frame. Turtle explains the heroic, high-fantasy themes of the game while Winter observes that the protagonist is green. This flusters Turtle. He continues to explain facts about the game, mentioning the hero's father is a tree, there is a princess inside a big fish, and at night zombies come out and kill you. He then, without warning, hands Winter the controller and tells him to try it himself. Winter grabs onto the three-pronged controller with three talons. He looks very tense doing so, and mashes buttons. A yelp is heard and Turtle observes that Winter has somehow killed Navi the fairy, despite that supposedly being impossible to do.

Smaugust 2026 - "Game"

Bit of a sequel to "Cyber" from my 2024 run, Qibli playing games again. Obviously not canon, since they haven't quite figured out computers yet on Pyrrhia, so it's just a fun what-if.

Wood stocks are too low, sire.

#wof #WingsOfFire #wofWinter #wofQibli #dragon #Stronghold
A two-panel comic. The first one shows a facsimile of a real time strategy computer game (modeled after the game "Stronghold"). There is an overhead-view of a desert landscape with rivers criss-crossing through. There is grassland in the east, with three crops fields built on it. A mouse cursor is hovering over that area. The user interface shows a menu for placing buildings, as well as a grinning dragon holding a scroll with various game statistics on it. Cut to the second panel, where Qibli is playing the game on a computer while Winter watches. Winter asks him what he is doing with the cursor and Qibli replies he wants to build another crops field. This annoys Winter, who cites some kind of ideal resource chain ratio and says three fields are enough. They argue a bit back and forth and Winter suggests Qibli's peasants should revolt and overthrow him. Comic page featuring Qibli and Winter, continuing from the previous post. Winter is still commenting on Qibli playing computer games, criticizing his playstyle. Qibli, looking annoyed, suggests Winter should play himself instead of backseating him all the time. To this Winter is shocked and insists he can't do that. He tries to excuse himself, explaining that he's never learned how to play these games because his parents claimed they were a waste of time and never let him have any. Qibli replies that it's about time he started playing them then, and that if his strategy games are too intimidating to start with, Winter should go see the others and check what they are playing. He calls it a "quest of self-discovery". Winter seems apprehensive and nervous at the idea.

ngl when I read the second arc, idk why but I at first always imagined Winter looking very similar to Glastrier.

"Refreshed and Ready"
Winter and Qibli graciously give us insight into their daily morning routine, just in time for the end of June.
Happy pride.
#WingsOfFire #wof #wofQibli #wofWinter #wofUmber #dragon
A comic page featuring Winter the Icewing and Qibli the Sandwing. The setting is a cave room with several rock shelves and small water pools and basins, implied to be a kind of bathroom. Winter is standing at a body of water and brushing his teeth. Qibli slinks through the door and past him, prompting Winter to comment that Qibli finally got out of bed and that he is too late to get clean and ready in time for class. Qibli assures him he will be. He grabs a nearby towel and rubs his face with it. Then he puts it away and claims this is all he needs to be ready for the day. Winter is speechless and stunned at this declaration, then hisses and is overtaken by unyielding rage at Qibli's horrid hygiene standards. The last panel is an exaggerated close-up of his face, enraged and wreathed in heavy shadow, with teeth exposed and glowing eyes. A comic page continuing the previous events. Umber the Mudwing knocks at the room entrance and pokes his head through the door. He explains Webs sent him to check up on the two since they weren't there when class started. It then shows Winter, surrounded by soap bubbles, shoving Qibli into a mound of foam and dunking him in water. Only his hand is visible through the foam. Winter declares that Webs will have to wait, as this is "a hygiene emergency." Umber accepts this explanation and bows out. Finally, Qibli resurfaces, gasping for air. A block of soap is in his mouth and he is spitting out more foam. Winter says "Stop eating the soap! You ninny!" as he continues pushing him into the water.

So I've been shown a picture of the front cover of the Darkness of Dragons graphic novel, and... I see what's going on here. You cannot fool me.

I agree! Cast off the shackles of the main story and embrace adaptation! Make it canon!

An asinine chimera of an image, haphazardly stitched together from the covers of Wings of Fire graphic novels 7 and 10. They feature Winter and Qibli respectively, and are combined in a way to make it seem like the two are holding hands. The creator of this combined image appears to have some issues to work through.

"Spider"

Based on a conversation I had 2 years ago. The title is "spider" and there is discussion of a spider, but no actual spiders depicted in the comic.

Can never have enough Qibli/Winter domestic scenes.

#WingsOfFire #wof #wofQibli #wofWinter #wofMoonwatcher #dragon
A comic featuring Qibli and Winter. Winter wakes up a sleeping Qibli, who groggily wonders what's happening. Winter then informs him that there is a spider in the bathroom. Qibli doesn't know what he is supposed to do with this information. Winter explains that he wants him to get rid of the spider, saying that, as a Sandwing who eats scorpions, Qibli should be able to deal with this problem. Qibli angrily refuses to eat the bathroom spider, to which Winter says he doesn't care how Qibli disposes of the spider, as long as he does so somehow. Qibli then walks into the bathroom, intent to see the spider and making fun of Winter. He then looks at something off-panel (implied to be the spider) and falls silent. Smash cut to both Qibli and Winter now waking up a sleeping Moonwatcher. As Moon gets up, Winter explains that there is a spider in the bathroom, while Qibli sheepishly says "It's a lot bigger than I expected."

Obviously this is all work-in-progress. The GUI is unfinished and it is missing proper backgrounds. But maybe someone would like to see the conversations.

These two don't really get to ever talk one-on-one. I think it's kind of a wasted opportunity.

I'll show off Winter&Turtle's convo chain as a treat:

I wanted to write a closing scene for Winter and Icicle's storyline. I've felt that the two of them never really got the closure they needed.

#WingsOfFire #wof #wofWinter #wofIcicle #dragon
Close-up of Winter's talons holding a crescent-shaped brush carved from an animal bone. Text: WINTER: I brought you something. Here. ICICLE: What… WINTER: Do you remember it? ICICLE: My old brush…? WINTER: When we were little, you would always use it to brush your spines before father took you hunting. I thought maybe you could use a small piece of home right now, so I went to the house and grabbed it before getting chased out of the capital. ICICLE: A whole lot of good a brush is going to do me in a dirty cell. ... A shot from behind Winter who is talking to Icicle calmly. Icicle listens to him while holding the brush and examining it. Text: ICICLE: Why are you doing this? WINTER: Because you are my clutch sister. and maybe this is stupid, but I care about you. In all those years I grew up in that terrible house, mother and father always hated me. But I thought maybe the three of us--you, Hailstorm, and me--maybe we could come out of this not hating each other. A shot from inside the prison cell, looking out at Winter with a large doorway behind him. At the far end of the doorway, a small silhouette of a guard shouts out towards him. Winter turns his head towards the noise. Icicle frowns and touches the cell bars. Text: ICEWING GUARD: That's about all the time I can give you, Prince Winter. Please leave! If anyone finds you here, I'm going to be in trouble! WINTER: Goodbye, Icicle. I'm sorry this is how it all happened. Close-up of Icicle, clutching the brush and holding it to her face as if trying to comfort herself. She looks somber and sad. The same close-up as before, but with the lights snuffed out and dark. Icicle closes her eyes. Text: ICICLE: ... Live a good life for me, brother.

A reprise of the shot with the bars dividing the scene in half. Icicle has averted her head as she is fed up with Winter's intrusion. Winter is looking off to the side, uncomfortable. Text: ICICLE: Leave me. I tire of talking to you. WINTER: There is something else I wanted to tell you. ICICLE: Whatever you have to say, I am not interested. WINTER: This is about father. ...he is dead. Winter speaks again, still not looking very sure of himself. Icicle has turned back around and is clutching the bars tightly, her expression looking startled. Text: ICICLE: WHAT?? How?? WINTER: I don't know how much of what has been going on made its way to you. I see you're wearing one of Qibli's earrings so you know about the Animus plague at least. Darkstalker is real, and he came back. There was a battle between our people and the Nightwings, and father died in it. ICICLE: And Hailstorm? What about him?? WINTER: He is alive. Mother is with him right now, they are at the palace. She blames me for what happened and publicly denounced me as a traitor. I've been banished and so I'm currently on my way out of the country. This is my last stop. I wanted to see you one more time. ICICLE: … … A close-up of Winter's face in shadow, looking troubled, pleading, and sad. Text: WINTER: So just this one time, Icicle. I beg you. Can we drop the hostility? I don't want the last conversation we ever get to have be spent tearing each other's throats out. A close-up of Icicle, mirroring the prior close-up of Winter. She looks resigned and calm. A hooped earring with a tear-drop attachment hangs from her ear. Text: ICICLE: ... ... All right.

A shot from behind Icicle looking towards the bars. Winter is standing behind them, well-illuminated, talking. Icicle observes him from the shadows in barely-restrained irritation. Text: WINTER: I'm not trying to moralize. Everything you chose to do makes sense to me. But I also don't think Scarlet would have ever let Hailstorm go. No matter what you, me, or any of us did. She was too cruel for that; I learned that when I met her myself. ICICLE: Oh, of course! You've spent a few days with her and suddenly you are the expert! That's you! Winter the Scarlet expert! You think you know ANYTHING about what Scarlet is like!?! You didn't have that deranged shrew living in your head for MONTHS! Icicle is in the center of this shot, darkened. Her limbs are drawn toward herself and she looks upset. The background is dark, with two enormous, malicious-looking yellow eyeballs affixing their gaze to the dragon princess. Text: ICICLE: You didn't spend every night waiting, fearing she would seek you out again… Seeing her gaunt, decaying face leering at you out of the darkness under your eyelids… Jeering. Taunting. Telling me all the things she was going to do to HIM if I didn't do what she said… And you DARE stand there and lecture me about what she is really like… as if you know her better than I do. Text: WINTER: Wait, but… she contacted you while you were at Jade Mountain, didn't she? She wouldn't have been in your head for more than a week or so? ICICLE: Of course YOU would think that! No, she has been in my head since long before that. It first started a few weeks after the war ended. Did you think I begged Queen Glacier to send me to that rotten mountain hole because I WANTED to live in a dirty underground dump and cuddle up to the people who just a while ago were trying to kill us!?! I only did that because Scarlet ordered me to! I hated every wretched minute of it! Winter and Icicle talk through the bars. Winter looks remorseful and somber, while Icicle is seething with indignation. Text: WINTER: I'm sorry Icicle. I had no idea. ICICLE: Of course you didn't! You NEVER have any idea! I'd like to be as carefree as you, running around with my head wedged up my own backside! Content to be the screw-up and never having to live up to anyone's expectations! WINTER: Is that what you think my life is like!??! (sighs) All right, whatever, we don't have time. I'm not in the mood to fight with you, Icicle. ICICLE: Well, that is too bad! I guess you shouldn't have come here then!

(continued in replies)

Another skit I did for the blog featuring Winter and Icicle.

-- CHECK THE REPLIES FOR THE FULL STORY --
I've noticed that the preview omits sections in the middle. There are four story posts in total (16 images).

Princess Icicle of the Icewings is lying down, shrowded in darkness. Her head is turned away and her eyes are closed. Two shadowed, bar-like objects are framing her in the foreground. Text: INT. An Ice Kingdom Prison; time unknown > ICEWING GUARD, PRINCESS ICICLE ICEWING GUARD: (talking to someone outside) Yes, she's in here. ... A few minutes, that's all I can give you. The same scene as before, except now it is illuminated. Icicle is inside a prison cell, the bars casting shadows onto her face and body, as well as the wall behind her. She opens her eyes, looking in the direction of the bars. Her face and body are smudged with grime. Text: ICICLE: You. ... The prison cell bars divide this scene in half. On the right, wrought in deep shadows is Icicle, lying on the floor and looking up at her visitor with irritation. On the left, bathed in light from a globe in the corner stands Prince Winter, who is looking at Icicle through the bars. Text: WINTER: ... ... ICICLE: What do YOU want? Did you come to gloat? About how, after all these years, the silver child rots in a hole while the eternal screw-up triumphs? Or how much kinder and nobler you were when you rescued Hailstorm after I messed everything up? WINTER: I came here to see how you are doing. ICICLE: I'm in a prison cell, you idiot! How do you THINK I'm doing!?! A close-up of Icicle yelling and baring her fangs. Text: ICICLE: They locked me up in this disgusting ditch for killing ONE Nightwing! After I was almost murdered TWICE! And what for?? Being a soldier in the war!?! And that Mudwing, the one who tried to do that to me? SHE gets to walk free!?! HOW is that just?? How many of OUR people has SHE killed?? Does THAT not count for anything!?! WINTER: I'm not blaming you for what you thought you had to do. ICICLE: (snorts derisively) "THOUGHT" I had to do??
