The scribes had two inks, so scripture is in iron-gall ink and everything else is in red ochre.
I set the title in Frank Ruhl Libre, a font drawn for Hebrew and Latin together.

Are you working with #Quarto and #Typst?

I do and a lot, especially with my typst-render Quarto extension (m.canouil.dev/quarto-typst...).
But it has one big pain point, you get no preview, so you either work with an external file or copy/paste between qmd and typ files.

This is going to end soon!

Gribouille 0.7.0: 'theme-brand()' turns a parsed brand.yml into a plot theme, so figures follow the same brand as the prose.
Arrowheads on the line geoms, and a 64 000 row boxplot drops from 28 seconds to 2.2.

Three years ago I started shell completions for the Quarto CLI and abandoned them mid-way.
Finished them this month, so I can finally stop running '--help' to guess a command/flag name.

Happier in the terminal than I was on Monday.

This week's TidyTuesday is a set of biodiversity occurrence records.
I picked four organisms and gave each its own radial dial look, one wedge per month.

Drawn in Typst with Gribouille: geom-col under coord-radial, split with facet-wrap.

Four radial dials in a row, one per species, each showing that species' year. Months run clockwise from January at the top, so the southern winter sits at the bottom, and every wedge is that month's share of the species' own records. Each dial is labelled with its species and its peak: orchid at 43 percent in September, glowworm at 30 percent in December, manta ray at 29 percent in July, and Gouldian finch at 16 percent in July. The orchid dial is dominated by one deep rose wedge reaching past the fourth ring on the left of the circle, with August and October beside it and almost nothing from December to April. The glowworm dial in green leans to the upper left, into the southern summer of November and December. The manta ray dial in ocean blue points straight down into June, July and August. The Gouldian finch dial in ochre is the most even, a small fan spread across the dry season from April to September and never rising far. Rings mark 10, 20, 30 and 40 percent.

TidyTuesday (21st of July 2026) is an archive of near-death experience accounts, each scored on the Greyson NDE Scale.

The figure is a geom-beeswarm of every scored account under coord-flip, each theme carrying its own median as a rule.

A horizontal beeswarm chart with eight rows, one for each theme the near-death experience archive codes for, ordered from the commonest at the top to the rarest at the bottom: ai_clinical with 526 accounts, ai_obe with 336, ai_unity with 96, ai_esp with 90, ai_hellish with 46, ai_world_future with 27, ai_past_lives with 20, and ai_aliens with 5. Each row label gives the column name in a monospaced face, then a plain-English gloss, the number of accounts and how many reach 7. The horizontal axis is the Greyson NDE Scale score, running the full length of the scale from 0 to 32. One dot marks each account, swarmed vertically within its row. In every row the dots pile into narrow columns between 0 and 4 and then thin out fast, so the right two-thirds of the panel is almost empty. A short dark rule marks each row's median; all eight sit between 2 and 3. A dashed crimson line just below 7 marks the threshold at which the scale counts an account as a near-death experience, and the few dots beyond it are drawn in crimson at full strength while the rest are held back in warm grey. A callout in the empty right-hand space states that 53 of 587 scored accounts, 9 percent, reach 7, that the scale runs to 32, and that the whole archive stops at 27.

The repository now has a documentation website instead of a README file.

The three penguin species everyone plots turn out to fill one small corner of the family.

A scatter plot of beak length along the culmen against beak depth for 92 penguin specimens covering 18 species in 6 genera. A pale grey envelope traces the outline of the whole family, and 75 small grey points inside it are the 15 species outside palmerpenguins. The 17 specimens of the palmerpenguins three are drawn larger, each species with its own colour and its own shape: coral circles for Adélie, teal triangles for chinstrap, and blue squares for gentoo. All three cluster tightly between about 53 and 69 millimetres of beak length and 15 to 22 millimetres of depth, and a dashed brown rectangle encloses exactly that range. The rectangle covers a small part of the panel: the family as a whole spans 43.5 to 110 millimetres in length and 11.9 to 31 millimetres in depth. A key inside the empty band below the rectangle names the three species with their marks and sample sizes. Three specimens at the edges of the family are labelled by name: E. minor at 43.5 millimetres long in the bottom left, E. schlegeli at 31 millimetres deep at the top, and A. patagonicus at 110 millimetres long on the far right. A callout in the upper right states that the dashed box covers 24 percent of the family's range in length and 34 percent of it in depth, roughly 8 percent of the area the other fifteen species fill.
