#COVID19SitRep
As the winter months approach, it should now be very clear: we cannot *manifest* our way to the end of the pandemic.

The current situation calls for solutions, not a grieving process that should be hustled along to the final stage of acceptance.

December 18th Update:

Case increases continue, with JN.1 Pirola dominance expected within a week. Near 1 million/day, and not near the peak yet.

🔸965,000 new infections/day
🔸1 in every 340 became infected today
🔸1 in every 34 people currently infected
December 19, 2023 at 1:27 AM
🔹Preliminary winter forecast is out. As JN.1 Pirola grows, it is forecast to push numbers up quickly in the coming weeks.

There is a decent amount of uncertainty on how far JN.1 will penetrate our population's resistances, so a reasonable range for the peak is provided.

Latest Biobot data shows U.S. COVID wastewater levels are rising again, and higher than they have ever been compared to the same date in previous years.

In other words, COVID levels are still high and taking longer to go down after this winter's peak. Keep taking precautions.

How long are you contagious with COVID-19?

Here's what the science says:
➡️ Most people are infectious for ~10 days
➡️ ~80% of people test positive for 5 days after symptom onset
➡️ Only ~30% of people who test positive have a fever
➡️ Presence of symptoms is an unreliable indicator of infectiousness

I don't know who needs to hear this but the pandemic is not over.

Our governments just abandoned all of us. Especially those of us who are most marginalized.

US Covid hospitalizations are on the rise, now >20,000 new admits/week, and this wave is just getting started as the JN.1 variant becomes dominant and wastewater levels surging in the Midwest with other regions to follow.
The booster protects vs JN.1!

☕😶 another 59,073 confirmed #Covid19 deaths
in just the last 12 months ...
over 1.19 million total deaths
(& these are likely very significant undercounts)

still no sterilizing vaccines
still no cure for #LongCovid conditions

but pretending "normal" 🫠

New study. Researchers found that the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein binds to fibrin, a blood protein that forms clots, leading to the formation of abnormal blood clots with increased inflammatory activity in patients with Covid-19 and Long Covid.

The rise of the KP.3.1.1 variant, which along with KP.3, accounts for most of Covid cases in the US summer wave now
It has a decided growth advantage, with higher infectivity and immune evasion compared with prior SARS-CoV-2 variants
