Yes! Modern Christianity has little to do with Jesus. Ebionites were probably last ones that followed teachings, but they were eliminated in the third century by orthodoxy, which sold an empire-friendly version. The real message was justice for the poor & social reform. JC was a threat to the elite

There is evidence that a several early Christians (especially the so-called Ebionites) more likely believed Jesus was a regular man who was inspired by God to prophecy (old biblical sense of proclaiming the will of God not predicting the future) who at death was “adopted” by God.

Fun fact. Jesus earliest followers (the Ebionites and Nazarenes) considered Paul to be a fraud and a heretic. But 300 years later, they put his letters into the Bible and here we are.

That is precisely what Christianity is about.
According to the Gospels, Jesus is alleged to say that he came not to bring peace but war, and he would divide families against each other.
You hardly hear about Marcionites and Ebionites any more. Christians slaughtered them (other Christians).

Tofu is not the only plant-based food. Look at the Nazarenes, Essenes, Buddha, Pythagoras, Jains, original Hindus, Jews, Ebionites +, all who made foods clothing that avoided harming our relatives & 🌏 as much as possible regardless of the ecosystems they inhabited, from desert to rice paddies

a lot of this was about pretty obscure groups i had not heard about, primarily the pro-Jewish Ebionites on the one hand, and the anti-Jewish Marcionites on the other. it also talked quite a bit about the Gnostics.

The Qumran sect that made the Dead Sea Scrolls, which might be the Ebionites mentioned by Josephus, use texts both from the Septuagint and Hebrew manuscripts. This means, they have to be from the same religious tradition as Early Christians.

His predecessor John the Baptist may have been plant based, as carob trees are known both as "St. John's bread" and "locust trees".
His successor James "ate no flesh" per Hegesippus.
And the Ebionites followed James's example.

There is a metaphorical interpretation, but if anything it’s even more along the lines of “no rich people allowed”. An early version of Christianity called themselves the Ebionites. Ebion is the Hebrew word for poor. So, “give to the poor” meant “give everything you have to us.”
