generally disproven by historiographers nowadays despite persistence as cultural myth; Nazism was considerably prevalent across all branches, and things like the "clean Wehrmacht" myth are just that-myths used either out of cynical convenience, desperate asscovering cowardice, or simply not knowing.

arxiv giving temp bans for clearly unreviewed LLM generated text is good and also, simultaneously, citation culture is stupid.

the genaology/provenance of ideas is interesting to historiographers and nobody else. why is everyone else spending 20-30% of its time doing historiographers work for them.

Bring back the historiographers of the Joseon dynasty for our time: an objectivity without #lacuna, where #dark secrets have nowhere to hide.

It's gonna be really cool in like 1000 years when historiographers are writing books about the 2020s called like, "Nothing Ever Happens: Daily Life Amid the End of a Republic"

1. As a dynasty, they didn't represent some revolutionary watershed moment in history (despite their historiographers claiming otherwise). Like the Merovingians before them, they were mostly just 'Franks' and there was more continuity than most people care to admit.

I think the historiographers must have been Gondorian because it really only makes sense from a Gondorian point of view.

This.

It's not that "winners write history", It's just that "historiographers are winners (at steering the discourse)".
A friend reminded me today about how misunderstood & unhelpful the idea of history being written by the winners actually is. Not only does it provide an excuse for cherry-picking & for discarding evidence one does not like, it is also not always true.

Not to play semantics, but part of the problem is that a lot of Japanese historiographers don't really describe Late Imperial Japan as being a fascist state. It was certainly authoritarian and extremely anti-democratic, but fascism has unique issues that weren't in Japan.

I'm not remotely versed in Chinese history, but I was reading on WP the favored courtesan of the last Shang king whom the Zhou historiographers all blamed for his moral corruption & the Wikipedia commentators all made it sound like the Zhou were a LOT more regressive on gender than the Shang?

David Herbert Donald’s two-part biography of Sumner is a rich text for historiographers. The first part, published in 1960, is dismissive of abolitionists, as this review says. But that’s not true of the second part, published in 1970 in the wake of the Civil Rights Movement.

Ooh I like that as an exam question for historiographers - is history what happened? or what was recorded to have happened?

I wonder how historiographers settled Second Age periodization. Like, I get that the War of the Last Alliance was a big deal, but surely Arda Made Round was a bigger one?

There are some folks that like 40k in a competitive table top meta chasing way and that's fine. There are others who like it for the communal narrative for your home forged totally not a legion despite having a hundred thousand units of Ultramarine successor.

I like snarky mock historiographers. :3

is a measure of a “chaos” in world history a reasonable expectation for historians (or historiographers) to be able to deliver on?
The world certainly feels very chaotic now. S Korea govt wobbled, Syria's fell. Parliamentary instability in several European countries. And the looming reTrumpening.

But is this really an especially chaotic moment in world history? How to measure?

Historiographers have been working on the "all history is political interpretation" story for decades and the White House just ... tweeted it out.
BREAKING WSJ:

The Trump White House plans to conduct a far-reaching review of Smithsonian museum exhibitions, materials and operations ahead of America's 250th anniversary to ensure the museums align with "Trump's interpretation of American history." www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

For I see that all good historiographers have thus handled their chronicles, not only the Arabians, Barbarians, and Latins, but also the gentle Greeks, who were eternal drinkers.

Gang, if I’m the one to do it, please make sure you represent me with my fursona in the historical record; and in any picture where the act is being depicted, please have me showing hog and toebeans.

Thank you in advance to the many beautiful and lovely historiographers of this potential future:

Of the infancy of Pantagruel
I find by the ancient historiographers and poets that divers have been born
in this world after very strange manners, which would be too long to
repeat; read therefore the seventh chapter of Pliny, if you have so…

For EM historiographers (and the Welsh), H7 matters in dynastic terms, but I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say it matters in the same way in epochal terms
