Suppl. 3 has 10 annual global maps with modelled HungaTonga °C impacts. From a 2025 preprint by Bednarz etal. Showing it wasn't an irrelevant event with ±0 change. Btw, they used the NCAR model.

But altho it got primed w/ SST from reanalysis MERRA2, it's impossible to match recent reality. 😭

Today at @agu.org the long-awaited report on global atmospheric impacts has been released. Kudos to all authors - tremendous work!

Living in a landlocked state may suck, and we definitely struggle with tornadoes and wildfires, but at least we will never have a tsunami. Those things and other severe weather scare the shit out of me. #HungaTonga #Tonga #Volcano #Tsunami #OceanDocumentary

Can you tell that other year where February went below 1005? What year was that? Want to check whether it was as special as 2026-February wrt HungaTonga.

Cool!

Want to know what I think? Subsurface volcanic explosions in shallow water like HungaTonga can become a regular feature. From sealevel rise, but also from quakes caused by de-glacial rebound in high latitudes, when they reverberate along the faultlines and tickle magma chambers into action.

February 13, 2026 at 10:15 PM

Same as Indonesia robbieandrew.github.io/carsales/
Mind you, car sales are horrible, any fuel. What I find noteworthy is how the botched global Covid approach and Putler's war reduced the SE-Asian middle class, ie who can afford a car.
With rising # of climate impacts, societies💥erode permanently.

I am very sad how the modelling community denies to investigate societally relevant impacts of this event. Regional impacts eg Pakistan's monster monsoon and Europe DJF rain destabilise societies. Yet the recent big HungaTonga report only had 1 study dealing with it in a similar way as Jucker et al.
February 26, 2026 at 11:38 AM
Also, if HungaTonga plays a large role in DJF drowning of Ireland, Wales and Sommerset, of Niscemi and Southern Europe &🇲🇦,
and UK drowning DJF 2024,
saying that its explosion had no discernible impact on global climate is the wrong angle. Bc "global" forgets regional impacts of global importance.
