...and another sample with more bells and whistles: a simple Amiga IFF ILBM viewer, renders into a Mode-13h-style framebuffer (1 byte per pixel plus color palette), also supports color cycling effects via the IFF CRNG chunk :)

oh this will be an irix DSO for amiga ilbm files so I can turn softimage output renders into files suitable for the atari arcade hardware

GIMP supports IFF / ILBM but weirdly not by default, you need a plugin. Conversely, Linux can natively mount, read and write Amiga file systems.

it turns an ILBM out of Deluxe Paint or whatever into a grid of 8x8 tiles, removes the duplicate tiles and remaps them in the grid, and produces a set of bitplane data files for the graphics bank builder and a C header with the tilemap for memcpy()ing into Playfield RAM

Might be. It doesn't ring a bell but neither does the other contender (ILBM/IFF, ty Abigail) so I guess that info is gone from my brain forever, driven out by later memories of battles over whether GIF or JPG was better. (I do not remember what side I was on. Possibly Team TIFF out of contrariness.)

PS: the 'fullscreen triangle' actually also works if the target doesn't cover the entire window client rectangle, you can just clip via the viewport rectangle. I do this for instance here in the sokol framebuffer sample: floooh.github.io/sokol-html5/...
