Animals don’t make nutrients. Only plants do: they do photosynthesis. Mushrooms are heterotrophs: they decompose organic matter (e.g., dead plants and wood) and break down nutrients to absorb them.

Why eat animals and obtain second-hand nutrients?

UMass claims its invasive experiments on monkeys' brains are ethical.

There's a simple litmus test here - if it's not ethical to do the research on human volunteers, it's not ethical to do it on unconsenting nonhuman victims.
