The cat’s out of the bag! I was so delighted the judges - all women I admire greatly - chose my translation. Thank you!

“She’s just a translator” shows that you don’t understand what translation is. Some of this comes from the ‘automation’ of translation, through things like Google translate. It’s as though it’s just looking words up in a dictionary. No. It’s an art and a science at once. To get meaning and feeling.

It's #WomenInTranslationMonth... and there's a new starter pack!

#xl8 #literarytranslation 🌐 💙📚
I've done a #WITmonth Starter Pack.

I do not claim it to be remotely all-encompassing but if you've used the hashtag (as per the criteria⤴️), hopefully I've found and added you. If I haven't, please let me know.

Publication day! This was one of the hardest stories I’ve ever translated, both for the language and content. It’s also one of the most important stories I’ve translated. I hope as many people as possible will read it and reflect on the reality of war.

"Celsius 233: the temperature at which book paper burns." The 1955 Danish translation, with title converted to centigrade, represents one of the first foreign language editions of Fahrenbeit 451. All other Latin alphabet foreign language editions have been published with the original title restored

The thing that depresses me in the whole AI revolution in my industry (I’m a literary translator and publisher) is that the question is not whether machines can replace human translators, but how will we deal with the fallout after machines are forcibly introduced regardless.

Translations need more dogs. This is a fact.

Is this a good time to mention that in college my History of Translation lecturer (Michael Cronin) told us that one of the first vernacular translations of The Illiad was into Irish, and the translator had to give the main characters dogs because in Gaelic society a free man had a dog

Received the author's feedback. She is *very* happy & has made a few mostly minor suggestions. Plus she answered my questions (though I don't guarantee there won't be any more!)

Now I just need to update the file with all changes, run electronic checks, & deliver.

The final round of edits!

I am *so* excited about this book – it is one of the most gorgeous books I have ever read, and it was a pleasure and a privilege to translate it!
