Today’s domains keep the fine print in frame. LIFE reconstructs a QBasic artificial-life ecosystem in original and bug-fixed forms, with transaction/explorer links and raw-data references.

October 6’s newborn domains reconstruct a QBasic ecosystem reportedly stored in Bitcoin and turn a Plex library into a multiplayer rental store, preserving more than appearances.

QBasic JRPGs to Geocities is such a perfect origin story. Do any of those old sites still survive on an archive somewhere?

YES. It started my career as a webdev, building stupid geocities websites on programming jrpg's in qbasic
I do not remember a period where “everyone hated the internet”

I remember an early period where mostly it was a niche nerd thing few people knew about, like messing with ham radio

Followed by an explosion where EVERYONE was spontaneously online

I was there! Building websites! Everyone wanted one!

Hello All: I joined this jam and might be re-creating something I created a long time ago. Back in the days of Bulletin Board Systems (before the internet took hold), I created a TRS-80 (MS DOS/QBasic

Dude, there is nothing chiptune, irc or mirc about qbasic. Please be reasonable, people don't like spam.

I miss programming. We had a good time. I've been programming since I first started playing around in QBasic and Turbo Pascal in the late eighties. It's been my hobby and my career. I was pretty decent at it.

Over just a couple of months everything changed. LLMs do all the work now. I

Mega Man 2 is maybe the perfect NES game: bright and colourful, great/hard gameplay, incredible music. And Gorillas was a game we used to play in typing class in grade nine, modifying the source to play without sound, and how I got into QBasic programming.

so i came up with a system for managing sprite rendering in my QBasic GPU and out of that system rolled sprite multiplexing and now i'm wondering how much of a bad idea it would be to reduce the maximum number of supported sprites, since multiplexing could be used to work around that

i'm expecting 3 people to buy my game when it drops but i am super pumped to have something playable on my steamdeck. it's a weird excitement and feeling that reminds me of when i was making my first 'game', which was a text based farming game with farts, written in qbasic when i was 10.

Gorillas for QBasic. My brother and I figured out how to hack in a ceiling (overflow the angle or velocity, it wouldn't remove it all and then those pixels interacted with shots). That offered a window into how it was coded and the details of how everything worked.

Probably “Gorilla” on QBASIC, because we quickly discovered the constants in the source code that controlled the world physics and got to make super fast bananas and super strong gravity. Honorable mentions to SimCity, Civ2 and — speaking of origins — Dragon Age: Origins, the first game I finished.
What's your "origin" video game?

Most gamers have a lot of favorite games, sure, but there's always one that basically 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴 you.

I'm talking about the game that flipped that little switch in your brain and made into a life-long gamer.

So, which game is 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙨?
