This is gomishi (五味子) or Schisandra chinensis. Japanese name means five-taste vine. It has been traditionally used as antitussive drug (cough medicine). My mother collected this fruit and soaked it in liquor to make pinkish alcohol drink. Oiwakehara, Karuizawa, Nagano. 🌿

Had to see the rest when I got to that.
I thought it sounded odd so I searched to see if it's more common in another culture. Maybe it is, in another alphabet. But I only found the plant genus Schisandra, which was derived from the same Greek root word as "schism," "schizophrenia," etc.

Chronic illness means I’ll try anything and everything. Possible waste of money, but that little bit of hope is always there. And I hold onto that hope tightly sometimes and sometimes it’s barely lifting, but it’s still there.
