Trenches weren't the only killer in #WWI. Infectious diseases, malnutrition and shell shock claimed as many lives as combat itself, and wartime #censorship even gave the #Spanishflu its misleading name. Read below!

...And I don't want to hear these #TechBros say, oh we are worried about a #BiologicalAttack by foreign bad actors.
The enemy within, dips**ts.
So like the American MILITARY that created the #SpanishFlu?
How many humans died from that? That's like saying 'Japanese were 1st in nuclear warfare.'

The paper is real, but it doesn't say masks caused millions of deaths during the #pandemic.

Totally agree, from your Southern neighbor (sorry about everything!), and the amount of denial is staggering

#SpanishFlu (as I'm sure you know, though many don't) got that name because Spain was the only country to admit it had a huge problem

Maybe #CanadianCovid could have the same impact?

John always wondered why he had to move around so much as a child, living with different families after his parents died in the #SpanishFlu epidemic.

70 years later, his sister Anna sent him a 30-page letter telling her version of what happened.

Reading Gabriele tergit’s fantastic novel the Effingers is teaching me things: the 1918 Spanish flu actually started an Kansas, but wartime censorship meant it didn’t get to be known until it “went” to Spain. #Tergit #effingers #spanishflu

Sometimes researching a family really makes you stop and think - a couple (relatives of mine in #Blackburn) had 8 children and only 1 survived infancy. In March 1918, they (age 81 & 82), their one surviving son (47) and his wife (43) all died of #pneumonia within just 25 days.

The #GreatInfluenzaPandemic effectively began #ThisDayInHistory in 1918 when a first case was recorded in Kansas. Mistakenly called #SpanishFlu, the H1N1 influenza virus killed between 50 & 100 million people before ending in 1920. You'd think we might have learnt more from that.
