Assessing drought on a short time scale, the Flash Drought Conditions Indicator v3 shows most intense drying in northwest Wisconsin. Rapid drying was also occurring in parts of the Plains, Lower Mississippi Valley, Minnesota, and Michigan.

The latest Nino 3.4 sea-surface temperature (preliminary) is 2.78°C above the 1991-2020 baseline, marking the 99th consecutive daily record, a full 0.79°C higher than the previous daily record set in 1997.

The Climate Casino is taking the OVER on 3.0°C by the end of September.

The Flash Drought Conditions Indicator v3 shows intense flash drought in the upper Midwest, Texas/Oklahoma panhandles into southwestern Kansas, and in the Gulf states. The monsoon is also bringing needed moisture to the Western U.S.

The Flash Drought Conditions Indicator v3 shows that parts of Colorado and New Mexico have the most intense conditions. Other areas of flash drought likely include Nebraska, the Great Lakes area, Northeast and Southeast.
