This interior view captures a stone mullioned window within Fountains Hall, an early 17th-century country house situated on the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal estate in North Yorkshire, England. Looking out onto the expansive estate grounds, this specific window is a characteristic feature of the late Elizabethan and Jacobean architecture found throughout the property. The hall itself was constructed between 1598 and 1611 by Sir Stephen Proctor, who built his grand home largely using stone salvaged from the neighbouring ruins of Fountains Abbey following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. FFS! Who invented these ridiculous things they call tights? Like who? Bet it was a bloke! OK, so there must be a clue in the waistband...this is SO confusing! Which way round do they go? Why did I leave it this late to get ready for my date? Am such an idiot! Have to leave in 20 mins and I'm still practically starkers! Mark had better be worth it. Will Gail's date with Mark be a success? Will she make it on time? Will he notice she can’t climb steps because she's got her tights on back to front thus restricting movement? Who did invent tights? Shadows cast by a classical sculpture on a plinth at UNESCO Studley Royal Water Gardens in Yorkshire. Shadow cast looks rather like the figure is trying to maintain balance whilst getting dressed. Manicured lawns and the edge of an ornamental lake behind, with curve of trees in the distance. Blue sky overhead.

Temple of Fame
for today's #PalacesandGardens theme of #SeasonalShift.

Photograph quality not just seasonal shift here! 🍃🍂
Today's challenge had me digging deep in the albums.

(Big camera / phone camera)
Summertime photograph taken looking up at the Temple of Fame, at Studley Royal Water Gardens in North Yorkshire. Nestled on a high bank covered in trees and shrubs, it's a Grade I listed, classical temple with stone pillars and a domed roof. The views from up there are amazing! Blue sky with clouds overhead. Studley Royal Water Gardens, Deer Park and Fountains Abbey, form a large UNESCO World Heritage Site run by the National Trust. The gardens are full of follies, temples, statues and lakes. Best time for a walk or a run here is a Sunday morning where you don't encounter many others. It's bliss! You can clock up the miles without really noticing. Autumnal photograph taken looking up at the Temple of Fame at Studley Royal Water Gardens. Tried to crop the two photographs to look as identical as I could. The quality of this one isn't as good as the summer one which was taken with the big camera. The shrubs below the classical temple remain full of dark green leaves, but the trees surrounding it have either autumnal-coloured leaves or bare branches. For further info on the place, please read the alt text on the summer photograph. I have actually amazed myself that I've achieved this week's brilliant challenge with two photographs from a 'fancy garden' that look so close to each other. Must have been here over thirty times so it was my first thought of finding potential material.

Looking at the lake and trees beyond through the stone balustrade at Studley Royal Water Gardens in Yorkshire. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site and a magic place to wander. One of the stone pillars is new which I hadn't noticed initially. Excellent job whoever produced it.

Most of my bird photos are fails so they just get deleted. This is one that slipped through the removal. A pair of pheasants amongst a gravel path littered with golden autumnal leaves with huge fir trees behind. It was a beautiful autumn day at this amazing UNESCO World Heritage Site, and there are a couple of pheasants, feathers shining...whipped out my phone camera from a bit of a distance because I didn't want to scare them off, a started taking photos, hoping to slowly move across to get a much better curated scene. Wrong phone...this one is great for macro shots, fairly crap for the rest. iPhone is the reverse. The memories are SO much better than this dismal shot.

Photograph taken in a quiet spot, hidden away from fellow visitors. Wanted a different angle from the usual looking over the bridge to the water below. Tucked away at the base of a bridge between two lakes at Studley Royal Water Gardens. The water gently cascades down from one lake to the other. Manicured lawn in the background with hedges and trees. On the face of the bridge were plants growing from crevices and flowering beautifully.

(iPhone camera)
Photograph taken at up on the wooded hillside walking the circular route between Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Gardens. Love the perimeter of the place - less visitors, away from the famous attractions, gentle and natural. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and well worth a visit. It's expensive if you aren't a National Trust member though. Starting at the bottom of the image, a carpet of white wild garlic flowers covers the ground from which tall, thin trees reach for the sky, covered with their lime green spring leaves. A huge, dark tree trunk arches into the frame up the right hand side and over the too. The light is as it was, a little darker, under the tree canopy.

Well worth a visit if you're feeling flush or you have a National Trust card.

Photograph taken at UNESCO World Heritage Site, Studley Royal Water Gardens, North Yorkshire. Image taken looking up a straight channel of water stretching into the distance in which is reflected pale blue sky overhead and trees from one side. Perfectly mown grass either side of the water. Autumnal trees in the mid-ground and a glimpse of a stone folly nestled within them on the right. Hedge at the bottom of the image and a beautiful dark silhouette of a tree stretching into the scene in the foreground next to which I was standing. An autumnal scene of tranquility. Wasn't so tranquil soon after once I struck up conversation with a lovely older gentleman with a walking frame and we chuckled our way round, chatting about being happy snappers with our phone cameras and whether we should race each other. Chat to the elderly people folks - it brightens their day and yours 😊

Monochrome photograph taken looking up at a limestone sculpture of two male figures wrestling. Dark tree line behind and pale sky overhead. Taken at Studley Royal Water Gardens which is a World Heritage site in Yorkshire. Sculpture is of Hercules and Antaeus. Hercules is the hero and the dominant larger figure. Son of Jupiter and the mortal Alcmena, Hercules is famous for his strength and adventures. Antaeus is the smaller figure. King of Libya, son of Gaia (personification of Mother Earth) and Poseidon (god of the sea). He was notorious for challenging strangers to wrestling matches they would never win. He would restore his energy by touching the ground (Mother Earth). Hercules wins this wrestling match by lifting Antaeus up so he couldn't touch the ground to replenish his strength.
