Sometimes I wonder how ornithologists decide on the authoritative spelling of bird songs in trade books. Do they sit there in meetings arguing about whether it’s ‘tchuk-tchuk-tchuk’ with a T at the beginning and whether ‘cur-leeee! curl-leeee!’ has three E’s or four?
