There’s a special kind of grief that chronically ill and disabled folks know of watching huge parts of life pass by while your body, try as it might, simply hurts too much or is too exhausted or dysregulated to do a single thing except try to stay alive from one moment to the next.

The other side of friends abandoning you when you get sick - you figure you have nothing to lose and put yourself out there to find better people to have in your life, people who understand. You’ll be so surprised at who actually steps up, and those people will be the ones to lift you up.
