Dichelostemma congestum (Ookow) heeft ronde cluster gevuld paarse bloemen. Aantrekkelijk voor bijen. De smalle, grasrijke bladeren sterven af als de bloemen openen.

The areas of Oregon's Willamette Valley that remain native prairie definitely have a fair share of wildflowers, as seen in tonight's 9 o'clock photo.

A cluster of lavender blue, 6 petaled, small lily-like flowers and flower buds are perched at the end of a reddish green stem. The plant leaves look like grass blades. Seattle Park volunteers are working to recreate the Puget Sound prairie system in our parks, and people like me love finding natives in the grass.

Walking #NativeIrisTrail in #Eugene last Saturday, watched a pair of Acorn #Woodpeckers work this snag and fend off an invading squirrel. Learned the bulbs of these purple flowers are called #Ookow and were food eaten by the Maidu and Nisenan American Native cultures.

there’s something so distressing about watching my top-observed iNaturalist species more and more become a picture of North Carolina. it used to be like a species poster for norcal
INaturalist species page shows: 34 observations Asian lady beetle 31 observations green anole 29 observations convergent lady beetle 24 observations “dog vomit slime mold” (sorry I didn’t choose the common name) 20 observations fiery skipper 20 observations eastern tiger swallowtail and pictures at the bottom with labels cut off of round tooth ookow flowers and “wolf’s milk” slime mold

This purple plant seems to be of the Ookow family. It has a globe like appearance and many little flowers coming out of it. I will correct it if someone corrects me.

I saw small patches of these two very dainty little wildflowers today while walking on the oak savannah at Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood. At left is the Fork-toothed Ookow (odd name!). The other is a White Brodiaea. They’re new to me. #pnw
