Wow! An amazingly beautiful quadtrees+particles visualization made with raylib! 🚀

Enhorabona! 👍😄

level 9 is actually a super neat explanation of quadtrees: neal.fun/not-a-robot/

Building further previous experiments, these are quadtrees built with points derived from generative mountain landscapes.

Fun with quadtrees. I wanted to implement this for a long time but somehow never came to. These are configured to allow just one point per tile.

Made a little (de-)glitch toy with quadtrees:

This looks and feels amazing. How far a little bit of quadtrees and textures will get you. Zooming off a drop from a 100km tall "mountain"

I made Bad Apple!! run entirely locally on the Pebble smartwatch! I managed to get half the animation to fit in the 256kB I'm allotted using a form of RLE, but had to pivot to quadtrees as a lossy compression to fit the full animation.

Create a collision detection system

I already had this for my Genuary 8 prompt so I decided to visualize the way quadtrees divide the space

phew making quadtrees is harder than i thought, (ignore the epic fail at the end, still debugging that)

Further experimentation with quadtrees. It's interesting to see the emergence of flow fields when the rectangles get very small.

Colours used here are just CMY, but one or two colour components are randomly diluted fifty per cent to get more variation.

Optimized rendering in #golang!

Before: calculating every frame
After: cache + invalidate when needed

Also reduced orbit position precision. It useless to be that accurate: my CPU shouldn't burn for that 😬

Heard about quadtrees 20 years ago, is it the next step?

Octrees, the 3D form of quadtrees, allow for quick block lookups and generalization. It's very useful for pathfinding and can even be used for other things like raytracing and collision detection.

Not me designing effects in blender for Mr Flounty's Big Adventure while I put off implementing the important stuff I want to learn about (quadtrees, separate axis theorem collisions and raycasting)
