#predatorypublishing
In their own words: "Our trusted, peer-reviewed content appears in over 200 highly ranked journals, magazines, and more than 2,000 conferences." And that is only because of @abalkina.bsky.social's work. If only their whole "production" was actually reviewed. #openscience #predatorypublishing

A "good faith agreement": you work for me without compensation, you shape authors and reveiwers into slave workers and I decide whatever I wish because I own the title and the technical platforms #predatorypublishing #peerreview
'[T]he publisher “crossed a fundamental red line in the good faith agreement between the Editorial Board and the publisher” by not consulting with the editorial board regarding future editorial appointments.'

Academics really need to learn that this "good faith agreement" simply does not exist.

"Research as a service (RaaS)" aka modern paper mills(?) are here. For only $100k, submit a paper in Neurips/ICML/ICLR.

Unfortunately, acceptance -NOT- guaranteed.

Spotted: The modern Paper Mill. Price tag: $100k.

FastCode AI is offering Research-as-a-Service (RaaS): for $100k, you bring the problem and the data, they do the research, run experiments, write the manuscript.

Target venues: NeurIPS, CVPR, ICLR, AAAI.
Timeline: 3-4 months.

Anyway, I checked the calendar twice. Still not April.

Next: Tinder for references. Match with someone who has a paper in the pipeline, cite each other, boost the metrics, call it "community building."

XOXO,

The issue with the reporting on this research is that "doubling every 18 months" doesn't tell us about the scale of the problem. There's a danger that research on paper mills ends up similar to the mostly terrible research on predatory publishing that assumes in advance that the problem is massive.
Science or fiction? Shadowy ‘paper mills’ let you pay to be a published author – of fraudulent research
Paper mill activity has exploded in recent years, polluting the scientific ecosystem with falsified data and compromising medical research

This time, they "welcome the submission" but I should edit it to "expand the discussion" on antioxidants.🤯 #SciPub #ResearchIntegrity #AcademicSky #PredatoryPublishing
