The motor neurons are specified of an overlap of Pax6 and NKX6.1, where TGFβ inhibits NKX6.1, TGFβ drives Pax6, and Shh inhibits Pax6 and Shh drives NKX6.1. That in-between region where both Pax6 and NKX6.1 are expressed is where you get motor neurons. (11/n)

TGFβ & Shh gradients arise along the dorsal ventral axis of the spinal cord, which subdivides it into several distinct layers of neuron types. For example, motor neurons are specified with a moderate Shh threshold, and sit on top of another layer of neurons immediately adjacent to floor plate(10/n)

I’m going to talk about the spinal cord before moving to the brain. In the process of forming the neural tube, you can see that once the neural tube has closed, we have the notochord on one side and a layer of epidermis on the other. (8/n)

🗣️ Dr. @hoheyn.bsky.social (@cnag-ffm.bsky.social eu.bsky.social): “Applying state-of-the-art technology, we observed how #TGFbeta blocks #immunotherapy efficacy and identified new therapeutic targets to improve #ColorectalCancer treatments.”

On the one hand, #TGFbeta prevents a sufficient number of T lymphocytes (the cells responsible for eliminating #cancer cells) from reaching the tumour from the blood. On the other hand, it blocks the expansion of the few T cells that manage to infiltrate the tumour.
November 7, 2025 at 10:01 AM
Published in @natgenet.nature.com, the study reveals how, via a hormone called #TGFbeta, colorectal tumours build a dual barrier that prevents cells from the immune system from acting against the #cancer.

… of cellular recovery (and the viennese TGFbeta data could support this) - weren‘t this also a misclassification, leading to wrong treatments and wrong research questions asked, hence no progress? A less stigmatising misclassification, granted, but still?

Once secreted, LRG1 acts on pericytes through TGFbeta signalling, driving them toward a more contractile and fibrotic phenotype.
We observed increased myosin light chain activation and thickened basement membrane in diabetic wild-type mice, but not in those lacking Lrg1.
