Many people from the #USDA were terminated yesterday/today. A place where agricultural research is done to support agricultural production. Scientists, research assistants, custodians.

While Vavilov was in prison, his team of botanists continued to protect the seeds and tubers that they had amassed, despite starvation conditions and being *literally* under fire. The descendants of those resources are still being used today. There is a lesson here.

📢Preprint alert! We found a new PGRL1 paralog which evolved in grasses. Modelling suggests it has a distinct lumen-exposed region, compared to ‘conventional’ PGRL1, which could provide faster regulation of photoprotection. The two PGRL1s are expressed in different cell types in NADP-ME C4 grasses!
